BackTrack v2.1
Cross-Connection Control Program Administration

Welcome to the BackTrack help documentation. Please use the data categories located on the left to navigate the specific topics of interest.

If you are just getting started with BackTrack, the topics listed below are considered "The Basics" for understanding how to operate BackTrack in general. Also, the "How do I..." section covers several frequently asked questions.

NOTE: Depending on your Access Control settings, some features described in this documentation may be different or not available.

Data Grids

BackTrack makes extensive use of data grids to display data in useful manner. These data grids allow you to sort records on one or more columns by simply clicking on the column header. Clicking on the column header again changes the sort order, and holding the Shift key while clicking the headers lets you sort on multiple columns.

Some column headers contain filters. They look like tiny funnel icons on the right side of the header. Clicking on a column filter displays a drop-down list of unique values within that column, allowing you to filter the records based on the selected value. You can filter on multiple columns to "drill-down" and find the information you are looking for.

All visible columns can be rearranged to suit your specific preferences.. Just click & drag any column to where you want it to be.

Not all columns are visible, or "turned-on" by default. You can turn columns on or off by clicking on Tools (located in the toolbar above the data grid) and selecting "Choose Columns", then checking or un-checking the checkboxes next to the column names.

Each data grid can be reset to the default settings (column order and visibility) by clicking on Tools and selecting Grid Appearance, then Reset Grid to Default Settings.

All data grids can be reset at once by closing any open grid and from the Main Menu, selecting Edit, Grid Appearance, then Reset All Grid Settings.

If a data grid has been open for an extended period of time, like if you go to lunch and did not close it, it is a good idea to refresh the data with the Refresh tool in the toolbar. If you use a grid a lot without closing it, it is recommended that you periodically refresh the data.

Detail Forms

Records displayed in the data grids can be "Opened" by either double-clicking on the selected record or pressing the Enter key.

The information within the Detail Form is often more complete than that shown in the data grid. This is because all of the data fields can be displayed in the Detail Form, and the information shown in the data grid is up to you by way of choosing the columns that are visible.

Many Detail Forms contain related information in the form of data grids. This information is not always possible to show in a data grid format. Clicking on a selected record within these data grids will open the selected record, allowing you to drill-down through the "layers" of related information.

Tool-Tips

What are Tool-Tips? They are little pop-up messages that explains what the mouse cursor is hovering over. These primarily work along the data categories located along the left side of the screen.

While first getting to know BackTrack, it might be helpful to have Tool-Tips enabled so you can learn what the different data categories are all about.

At the point where the Tool-Tips become annoying, you can disable them by going to the Main Menu located at the top of the BackTrack window and selecting Edit/Settings and clicking on the Show Tool-Tips menu item.
